He has the ability to see the whole project at once, understanding everything from the overall vision to detail interfaces at the same time. He is constantly sketching and drawing ideas as they arise.

Jointly with Julia, he leads all Feix&Merlin projects, with particular interests in the arts and public spaces as well as commercial office and infrastructure projects.

Tarek is a fully qualified chartered architect with over 15 years of experience in practice. He also has a strong relationship with architectural education as a Senior Lecturer at Brighton University.

Tarek graduated from the Bartlett in 2000, and originally worked at Foster & Partners before joining Will Alsop at his studio in Battersea in 2001. He played a key role on some of Alsop’s most high profile projects including Queen Mary University’s ‘Blizard Building’, (completed 2005), the ‘Palestra’ office building, (completed 2006), The Middlehaven Masterplan, and the Millwall Masterplan, part of a larger regeneration project for North Lewisham. Tarek was the project architect on Finch West, a multimillion pound infrastructure project in Toronto, managing a large team in London and co-ordinating with the local team in Toronto.

Tarek went on to become a Senior Architect at yoo, a high-end interior design studio co-founded by John Hitchcox and Philippe Starck, Leading on projects in India, Russia and the UK with Philippe Starck and Kelly Hoppen.

Architecture, Design, Branding, Graphics and Product Design

Feix&Merlin Architects is a boutique design studio based in London and São Paulo.

Since its creation in 2006, Feix&Merlin have consistently produced work that is magical and full of mystery.

“We try to keep an emphasis on work that is progressive, unusual and whimsical.”

What’s unique about our approach is that we like to look backwards at the same time as looking forwards. In every project, at every scale, we look for what’s come before just as much as what’s about to come. We love to see if there are clues in the site or historical uses that can be woven into the project.

Always distinctly contemporary but somehow at the same time distinctly familiar.

A search for a new tradition.

“We stand for a sense of uniqueness. We stand for delight and enjoyment, truth and mystery, honesty and deception, texture, colour, light, humour, wit.”
