Helter Skelter. A New Event Space and Public Park for King’s Cross.
An enchanting new public park that celebrates the joy of the original Victorian gasholder and allows the public to explore the volume of the space and revel in the wonderful heritage of the structure.
The scheme comprises of a new public realm with a ramp, a stair and a lift that take you up high within the volume of the gasholder frame.
A new Community Centre is nestled within the spiralling ramp and will incorporate a programme of events, screenings and performances.
Right at the top there’s a restaurant and seating area, as well as a giant trampoline that has been stretched over the void in the middle allowing you to bounce up and down catching views across King’s Cross and further afield over London. A long winding slide takes you all the way back down again to ground level swooping in and out of the frame as you go.
The new public realm treatment across the site knits in with the rest of the masterplan. Inspired by old Victorian lace, its pattern lifts up to create seating, flower beds and play areas.
