Pop-up roller skating rink.
The rink provided a temporary cultural, event and social space for an eight week period over the summer combining roller skating, top name DJs and fantastic food and drink, provided by the latest of London’s street food heroes.
Using raw, heavy materials (scaffolding, sawn timber, metal trussing) and naked lighting (fluorescent strips and exposed bulbs) we wanted to give a nod to the industrial heritage of the area, especially the rink’s immediate context. But then there’s the gold chainmail to bring it back to the more recent past, when King’s Cross was a mecca for clubbers, ravers, a lot of naughtiness and even skaters.
Skate King’s Cross generated over £200,000 in PR Value for our client Argent with a total reach of over 330m people.
“Feix & Merlin’s design is playful, fun and creative, and simultaneously respects the heritage and history of the Goods Yard at King’s Cross.”
