Private residential refurbishment, Clifton Village, Bristol
Feix&Merlin have completed an interior refurbishment of an apartment within a Grade II Listed Georgian townhouse in the leafy suburb of Clifton Village in Bristol.
The existing building was previously divided into eight self-containing flats, split over different storeys. The upper ground floor apartment comprised of a complicated arrangement of rooms which were not original to the listed property. The new layout better reflects a more social approach to modern living, whilst at the same time better respecting the listed building by bringing the general arrangement back closer to the original.
New contemporary interventions, such as the minimal kitchen design, with an open brass shelving unit dramatically suspended above the island unit, create a balanced contrast to the impressive heritage features like the impressive ceiling cornices which have been lovingly restored.
Feix&Merlin worked closely with the local authority to ensure that the character of the local architecture was respected whilst at the same time creating a contemporary aesthetic and an open space filled with natural light.
