Interior Design for Pontio, Bangor University’s new arts and innovation centre.
The idea was to create a series of flexible free-standing elements that can transform into different shapes and sizes according to how the students want to use them. The units can be used for a variety of functions from workstations and lockable storage, to secret pull-out seats, slide-out tables and pop-up shelves.
The main focus of the scheme is a 3D heart which incorporates message boxes, storage and shelves as well as two smaller tiered elements that can be wheeled away and pushed together to create stepped seating for small seminars or talks.
The overall design approach as well as the colour scheme is inspired by the look&feel and colour palette of the SU’s own branding. We have grouped the colours in each of the units to make it easier to identify which element came from where and to give each unit its own character.
